The MiniDisc format, being relatively recent (introduced in mid 90’s), does not yet provide sufficient hindsight to make definitive statements about its longevity. However, we can say that we have rarely encountered playback issues caused by the aging of Minidiscs. The greatest risk lies in the rapid disappearance of playback devices for this format, which had a relatively short lifespan and saw successive standards: the original ATRAC SP format, LP-2 and LP-4 formats, and Hi-MD.
